MQP hosts a "Boss Fight" at the end of every season.  The prizes are usually pretty good, and in addition to the personal ones, there are Alliance rewards that are nice as well.  Unlike normal events, however, the Alliance needs to work together to get to the final rewards - no one person is capable of getting to the end by themselves.

Rounds

Each boss fight is divided into 11 Rounds / Turns, which last 8 hours each.  The key to getting the most out of a Boss Fight is to understand how the rounds work, and time your involvement properly.

The rounds are (from Eastern Standard Time, USA):

  1. Thurdsay, Noon
  2. Thursday, 8:00 PM
  3. Friday, 4:00 AM
  4. Friday, Noon
  5. Friday, 8:00 PM
  6. Saturday, 4:00 AM
  7. Saturday, Noon
  8. Saturday, 8:00 PM
  9. Sunday, 4:00 AM
  10. Sunday, Noon
  11. Sunday, 8:00 PM (Shorter, only 4 hours)

In each rounnd, you want to get in as many fights as you can, to increase your score (and the team score).  The trick lies in the timing of fighting the boss, versus fighting the sub-battles.

Each time you fight the boss, you can't face them again until you defeat one of the sub-battles.  During the first round, you can fight the Boss six times (Boss, Sub, Boss, Sub, Boss, Sub, Boss, Sub, Boss, Sub, Boss).

After that, the Boss is not available again for 8 hours, or until you beat a sub-battle at the start of the next round.  The trick is this - if you wait the full 8 hours, you get an extra round in against the Boss.

Obviously, this will require planning your play time for when the Boss becomes available.  We, as an Alliance, don't expect you to wake up at 4:00 AM to play the game!  Because it's extremely difficult to wait it out every round until the Boss resets, this is a suggested pattern:

  1. Thurdsay, Noon - Jump in ASAP, even if you can't play.  This will make sure you get rewards from the Alliance as we progress.
    1. If you can, do all fights early on.
  2. Thursday, 8:00 PM
    1. Wait until the Boss resets, and do all fights.  Get a good night's sleep.
  3. Friday, 4:00 AM
    1. Play all fights before Noon.  Don't worry about getting them in early, we're choosing to take a loss on the next round in the sake of "Real Life Comes First."
  4. Friday, Noon
    1. Do fights close to Noon.  Don't wait for the Boss to reset.  (Optionally, you can wait, and skip the reset at 8:00.)
  5. Friday, 8:00 PM
    1. Wait until the Boss resets, and do all fights.  Get a good night's sleep.
  6. Saturday, 4:00 AM
    1. Play all fights before Noon.  Don't worry about getting them in early, we're choosing to take a loss on the next round in the sake of "Real Life Comes First."
  7. Saturday, Noon
    1. Do fights close to Noon.  Don't wait for the Boss to reset.  (Optionally, you can wait, and skip the reset at 8:00.)
  8. Saturday, 8:00 PM
    1. Wait until the Boss resets, and do all fights.
  9. Sunday, 4:00 AM
    1. Play all fights before Noon.  Don't worry about getting them in early, we're choosing to take a loss on the next round in the sake of "Real Life Comes First."
  10. Sunday, Noon
    1. Do fights close to Noon.  Don't wait for the Boss to reset.  (Optionally, you can wait, and skip the reset at 8:00.)
  11. Sunday, 8:00 PM (Shorter, only 4 hours)
    1. Wait until the Boss resets, and do all fights.  Sit back and enjoy your rewards!

Optional: If you can't play close to Noon, wait out the 8 hours and play the Boss all six times before 8:00 PM, then skip the 8 Hour reset for the evening round instead.

Of course, this will vary depending on Work, School, Family, etc.  Do your best, but don't stress out over meeting every deadline / playing ASAP when the new round begins.

Team Scores

This is the biggest part of the Boss Fight - individual members can't get the top prize without help from other players particiapting.  Here's a breakdown of the logic:

  • The Boss has rounds / levels.  The higher the level, the tougher the fight, and the more points you score for beating them.
    • The Boss is worth considerably more points than the sub-battles.  This is why you want to fight them as many times as possible.
  • In order to get enough points to get to 900,000, you need to get to the point that you are earning them in large enough chunks to meet that score by the end.
    • In order to get to that point, you need to get through the early levels to advance to the later ones.

In a nutshell, early participation is key to making progress at the end of the Boss Event.  Without the initial momentum, you can't get enough progress to get to the finish line.

Again, we don't want to stress that you absolutely need to max out every single round.  But everyone chipping in and contributing to the score early on in the event lays the groundwork for members who want to go the full distance to do so.

Help! I can't beat the Boss or Sub-Battles!

First off - don't worry.  This is a game, and everyone was a beginner once.  We're not expecting you to spend gobs of money and get a powerful roster right away.

The important thing is the early levels, when the rounds are easy.  The sooner we conquer those, the sooner we can get to the High Points Value rounds.  Jump in and knock out what you can early on.

Once you've joined, you'll get the Alliance rewards, even if you can't beat the rounds any more.  This is important - your participation gets you the Alliance-wide rewards, even when you hit your personal limit.  If you help out more early on, you'll get better rewards later in the event when others can beat the higher levels and share the rewards.

Also, even if you can't beat a round, trying still gets you points.  Do what you can, help out even a little bit, and it will help push the team score towards the next reward, which everyone will get.

If the Boss Fight offers you Loaner characters to play, use those - they may not be fully powered as if they were in your roster, but they don't use up Health Packs, and they are usually powered up somewhat.

Regular vs. Heroic Boss Battles

MPQ has begun offering two verisons of the Boss Fight side-by-side - a "regular" mode, and a "Heroic" mode.  The Heroic mode is different in the following ways:

  • Rounds are every 12 hours instead of 8
  • Personal rewards are not as good as the regular Boss Fight (i.e. - no 5-Star cover at the end)
  • Alliance rewards are based on placement, competing with other Alliances
    • Under a regular Boss Fight, Alliance Rewards are based on the overall score of the Alliance as a whole against a progress track, and are not compared to other Alliances
    • Under Heroic Mode, Alliance Rewards are based against the overall score / ranking of the Alliance in a competitive manner against other groups

Because this Alliance is not PvP / Competitive in its goals, Heoric Mode is not our main priority.  We still do it for the rewards, and we encourage you to play it!  However, if you are limited on time or resources, focus on Non-Heroic Mode first, then come back to Heroic Mode.
